The full decarbonisation of Europe is possible
25 representatives of the major players of the European thermal industry signed the DecarbHeat Industry Pledge, committing thus to align their business development plans with the vision of a 100% carbon emission-free heating and cooling sector by 2050. This vision was also supported by nearly 50 other organisations and individuals, including Brussels Minister Céline Fremault and H.R.H Prince Laurent of Belgium.
The formal signatures were made public during the DecarbHeat Forum, a 2-day conference that took place in Brussels on 11-12 May and brought together more than 30 speakers and 200 professionals involved or interested in heating and cooling .
This year’s conference topics covered the right policy framework to decarbonise heating and cooling in Europe, implementable solutions for cities and large industries and the untapped potential of digitalisation for the sector. The event also strongly involved youth representatives (from YERA) to make sure the next generation would be participate in shaping the future.
Dominique Ristori, Director-General for Energy at the European Commission, who attended the event, said: “Heating and cooling will play a key role in the energy transition and in meeting the Energy Union objectives of a secure, sustainable and competitive energy for all consumers. To achieve these objectives successfully, it is important to mobilise the heat industry and ensure that it works together with policy makers. This is precisely what DecarbHeat is doing. I therefore strongly support this initiative and address all my wishes of success to the signatories”.
