Axis Ductwork introduces new apprenticeship scheme

Axis Ductwork has recently embarked on its first ever apprenticeship scheme. 

Axis has employed two apprentices, Jake Bonney and Saxon Scott-Melia, who now spend one day per week at South Thames College and the remainder of the week on site with the existing senior workforce, gaining invaluable and practical knowledge.

Looking back over the last 20 years in the industry, Axis noticed a worrying industry-wide shortage of entry-level operatives, specifically a lack of ductwork mates.

By investing heavily in this apprenticeship scheme, Axis is helping to secure its future and assisting in tackling the industry shortage. 

Axis Ductwork believes that schemes like these will help to safeguard the level of service it provides. 

Stephen Axam, Managing Director of Axis, commented: “We are also delighted to reveal that, due to the excellent feedback we’ve received from the apprentices themselves and their colleagues on site, there will be an additional two apprentices joining on the next available term.

“By creating this stream, we can head into the next decade and beyond with the knowledge that at some point every one of our workforce will have had a college-education as well as practical experience on site.

“We consider these apprentices an integral part of our company’s future, and absolutely essential to the future of the industry.”
